THE CHARACTER

Character Name: Rick Sanchez
Series: Rick and Morty
Canon Point: S3 Ep4
Character Age: 60
Background: Here!

Personality:
Most, if not everything Rick Sanchez does, is fueled by the innate desire to one up people. He needs people to know that he's the best, and that, well, he's always going to be the best. That his knowledge is greater than yours, and while his life may not be better, intergalactic space travel might make it to be. He is a genius-- something that he likes to remind people of every moment he can. He has the ability to create anything from nothing, at any given moment. There isn't a person on the galaxy that isn't aware of how gifted, and how dangerous Rick Sanchez is. And he revels in it. Rick's ego is just about as big as the universe. Despite being such an intelligent person, he can often be juvenile or childish. In fact, most of the things that keep him entertained are either drugs, alcohol, or adventures that can get him either of those two. One of the things that keeps him, and his adventures, going, is just how petty he really is and how far he can push people. When Summer, his granddaughter, chose to hangout with a different old guy (the real actual Devil, Mr. Needful), Rick made it a point to rub it in Summer's face how shitty it is hanging out with Mr. Needful and not him. To be petty, he ruins the business for the shop Mr. Needful owns with his own, only only to '''close'' shop (set it all on fire with a declaration of "I'm bored now") once he sees Summer isn't affected by his actions.

Rick, ultimately, does half of the things he does to get reactions out of people. He needs to know just how much someone needs him, how much he impacts them, if his position or stance in the family is challenged. He goes through all that trouble to get Summer's attention because he's jealous. He takes Morty out of school whenever he can because he needs him, and when that system was jeopardized, he systematically displaced the man who threatened him.

It doesn't matter how much you mean to him, he'll talk shit about you. He'll talk shit to you. He'll make a point to make you feel like the shit at the bottom of his shoe. Rick has no filter whatsoever, which is partially fueled by his alcoholism, partially fueled by him genuinely not caring about hurting people's feelings. The world isn't kind to people, so why should he? But, despite his constant bullying and harassment towards other people, he can also get bored easy. If not evidenced by his willingness to throw things, or people, away at the drop of a hat and leave any situation he either has no interest in, or doesn't want to continue.

To everyone, even other Rick Sanchez's from other dimensions, he is known as the "Rickest Rick" out there. The most wanted man in the galaxy, the most depraved, the most self-loathing, Rick out there. Rick, having explored the universe in its entirety, is numbed to the ideas that life is meaningless and no one really matters. Numb both to death, to his own problems and pain. His genius, is also his downfall. Because Rick knows so much, having explored countless worlds, he has become jaded. He doesn't trust people. Even if you're his friend, if you so much as jeopardize him or his family he will kill you. Rick, always, looks out for number one. Family is less likely to die, but if he has to do it, he will.

When he feels, he feels strongly. While being able to distance himself from a lot of family drama and """"attempting""""" to play the """"""neutral card""""""", he can take things personally. His relationship with Unity, for example, being one of the extreme cases. When attached to people Rick clings onto them, almost like he actually needs them. He'll cling, push, and prod, until his own toxicity corrupts the relationship and he's forced to deal with the repercussions of his actions. With a lot of his coping methods either being drinking, getting really, really upset, or thoughts of suicide, it shows Rick's inability to grow or even handle change well. Because of that, when he is upset or hurt, it makes for a bad Rick. All because he's impulsive, typically drinks to dull out his emotional pain/thoughts, and a volatile little man. He's impulsive because everything he is, is fueled by his innate desire to just.... do it. Or just to prove that he can if he really wanted to.

He's filled with a dulled out rage a lot of the time, something he keeps subdued or in general quiet. To Ricks, emotions are stupid. He really doesn't have the time, not energy, to deal with emotions, because he has no reason to get attached to people. In general, Rick's are known for their lack of empathy, and general lack of ability to even care about people who aren't them. To Rick's, Morty's (his grandson) are just shields to protect them from attackers. While being the most Rick-like Rick out there, he separates himself from those like him because he does care. Even though he makes it a point, every time, all the time, to say he absolutely does not care-- Rick does. When Rick cares, he cares. A lot. Rick cares about Morty so much that he bothers to save him multiple times. He cried watching his memories of Morty grow up. And cares about his family enough to sacrifice himself for their safety-- for a normal life without him. Even though Rick considers himself a man with no weakness, his family is one sure fire way to get to him.

Despite all else, he is a rational and cynical person. Cynical because he knows how everything in the universe will play out no matter how optimistic you are. That everyone is going to die. And rational because his genius and his epic sci-fi adventures need him to be. He is a man of science, choosing to believe in logic. People who go to school, who follow other's like sheep, irritate him. Anyone who he considers stupid irritates him. Specifically, people who can't understand things from his point of view or get rid of that really dumb thing called home, he considers genuinely stupid. He holds himself to such high regard that anyone he really comes across he doesn't take too seriously all because he considers them lower than him. As far as Rick is concerned, everything he does is right and everyone else is wrong. Along with his general disdain for everyone he meets, Rick is someone who doesn't really care if he has to kill people, or if there's casualties among one of his adventures with his grandson. He'll do what he has to do. In fact, he enjoys killing, murdering, even pillaging to some extent, like the way a child would play with a new toy for five minutes and throw it away the five following. A lot of what he does is determined by the novelty of it, and whether he's interested in it or if he doesn't need it. Everything he does all comes back to whether it will really benefit him or not, even when it comes to his family.

Despite his eccentricities, Rick can be a pretty cool guy. He'll gladly grab a drink with you, just don't tell him what to do and everything will be fine.

Powers/Abilities: Rick, while not having any supernatural or physically outstanding abilities, is a genius. He can create and manufacture anything he wants to, for any reason, at any given time. Also, a good portion of his body has cybernetic modifications to it. Outside of that, he's just a bitter old man.
